WORKSHOP SITTARD – Join the search for Roman roads in Limburg

This is an event organised by Het Romeins Museum and Via Belgica.

Sittard

Join the search for Roman roads in Limburg

How did Roman roads run through Limburg two thousand years ago? We already know a great deal about well-known routes such as the Via Belgica, but other roads are still hidden in the landscape. Het Romeins Museum is looking for 60 enthusiastic volunteers who want to help map the Roman road network further.

You do not need to be an archaeologist. During a workshop, you will learn how to recognise possible traces of Roman roads using aerial photographs and digital elevation maps. Afterwards, you will work independently from home using an online GIS viewer. Perhaps you will discover an ancient raised feature, a strikingly straight line or another trace of a forgotten Roman road.
