Walk and listen: 7 Roman characters guide you along 13 new Roman routes.

Via Belgica is launching no fewer than 13 new Roman walking routes through the beautiful South Limburg landscape. During these special audio walks, 7 Roman figures take you back in time. As you walk, they tell you how people here lived, worked, played and travelled along the ancient Roman road two thousand years ago.

Celebrate the launch with us on Sunday, 14 June 2026, at Rolduc Abbey (Kerkrade) from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM:

  • Visit our cosy market (free)
  • Join fun children’s activities (crafts, face painting, bouncy castle, etc.) (free)
  • Choose one of our interactive walks. Don’t forget to register, as places are limited (full = full). All activities are in Dutch:
    • The LUX light festival at Rolduc Abbey – discover the stories of our 7 Romans in our renewed light festival. Sign up HERE.(€3 per person)
    • A guided walk with an IVN guide – discover the nature of Kerkrade and listen to the stories of our Roman singer Caecilia. Our IVN guide leads you on a 6.5 km walk through beautiful nature, and you will be rewarded with coffee and cake afterwards. Sign up HERE.(€3 per person)
    • A guided tour of Rolduc Abbey – Sign up HERE (free)
