EVENT – Roman Herbal Sensations
This is an initiative of the Botanical Garden Kerkrade
Botanische tuin, Kerkrade
During the Open Monument Weekend, the Botanical Garden in Kerkrade opens its Roman herb walk. The Roman writer Apicius already carefully described in the 1st century AD which herbs were used in meals. For example, sage combined with honey, salt and pepper creates a unique flavour in a stuffed egg. Or think of delicious herb cheese.
During the weekend of 12 and 13 September, you can enjoy the Roman herb walk, with several Roman cooks along the route. Taste the snacks among the flora and fauna of the beautiful Botanical Garden and discover fascinating facts about our Roman past.
On Saturday, a beekeeper will also provide explanations about the beehives. On Sunday, a guide will be present.
